Weekly Recycling
Once again this year we continued our weekly recycling program. All teachers and students are responsible for collecting the paper, plastic water bottles, and juice pouches in their classroom. Then once a week the Green Team (third grade students) collects the paper and plastic from each classroom and deposit it into the large recycle bins. They also collect the juice pouches which the principal sends in for and receives...the money is then used to purchase.... Waste Free Snacks and Lunch Week.Every day throughout National Green Week, classes weighed and recorded their snack trash. At the end of the week, these figures were added up and divided by the number of students in each class to determine the weight of non-recyclable snack trash generated per student per week. Many students already had plastic or steel water bottles and learnt that reducing the need to buy bottled drinks by having a reusable bottle is better than recycling because it saves huge amounts of materials and energy both in production and transportation.
