We have a student led, campus wide recycling club. Any students, K-5, can join. We meet Thursdays at 7:15. Every classroom has a recycling box that we made. On Wednesdays teachers put their box outside their door and on Thursday morning the club empties them into the blue bins. We have weekly recycling tips on the announcements and a monthly “Green Day”, where students and staff wear all green and do something ‘green’ that day.
For Earth Day we had a poster contest about saving energy. For National Green Week our school signed a pledge to ‘go green’. We had a theme for each day that combined dressing up and teaching a lesson. For example, Tuesday was Twin Day, students and staff dressed like a friend and discussed how to ‘be a friend to the earth’ by picking up litter. We have plans to do a dead battery collection and give out reusable grocery bags.
