"Kellis Goes Green: Earth Day"

The motivation for participating in National Green Week comes from the fact that we as teenagers are the future adults and we should learn how to take care of our Earth.  Keping this in mind we put together a few events to take place on April 22nd for our peers.  The first event we thought of was having the teachers turn out their lights during second hour to save a little energy.

The second event we came up with was making a couple of pledge banners so students could pledge to be greener by signing their name on the banner.  The third event we planned was a giveaway.  Students who wore green or blue shirts on April 22nd got put into a raffle and the person whose name was pulled got a free gift card to Target.  The last event we thought of was a recycling bin hoopshot.  Students during their lunch break were able to grab a piece of recycled paper and try to throw it and make it into a basket a few feet away.  Bins were set up in various places around our courtyard and students were having fun making shots.  We plan to continue this by planning a bigger and better Earth Day with even more eco-friendly events.

We learned how important it is to take care of our Earth and how many fun events we can come up with.  The students' response was positive, they enjoyed the activities and became more of the environment and how to take care of it.
