Transportation Fuels Debate
Lesson Description:
Students will evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of conventional and alternative fuels in an innovative debate format. The goal of the lesson is to investigate the economic and environmental pros and cons of transportation fuels.
In this debate, student teams learn about the different fuels and then are assigned to represent the different types. Working cooperatively, the students will develop arguments on the merits of their fuel over the others.
With this debate, students will better understand the concepts of how we use petroleum products for most fuels today, how petroleum-based fuels produce emissions that have a detrimental effect on air quality, how there are many conventional and alternative transportation fuels, etc.
