Lesson Description:
In this lesson, students will better understand the negative effects of vehicle idling by mainly focusing on the 6 major air pollutants. There are several activities in this lesson that the teacher can implement. Using the provided chart and graphic organizer, students will better organize their notes about their air pollutant.
Finally, if wanted, there is a prompt, rubric, and sample of a persuasive writing piece that the teacher could assign as a follow up to the previous activities.
Objectives:
After completing this lesson, students will be able to:
• Identify the 6 major air pollutants.
• Understand how pollution impacts themselves and the world.
• Understand that some things can have a negative or positive effect on air quality.
• Create Persuasive Essays communicating the need to reduce idling to improve air quality.
• Communicate the information through publishing essays in the school newspaper, reading aloud on a school news show, and hanging work in the hallways.
• Encourage No-Idling.
