Sustainability Lesson Clearinghouse
Take A Stand
Lesson Description:
'Take a Stand' is an adaptation on a classic activity where students are asked to give opinions on controversial issues. Students read statements about human population issues, and they place themselves around the room according to whether they agree or disagree with these statements. Students are asked to articulate their views on the subjects, and this discussion can be used to clarify areas of confusion. This is a good activity to be used as an opener for a unit on population or the environment, because it will help the students gain and solidify basic knowledge and opinions about environmental issues.
